Meet Dr. Q the NP

Quierra Winter Rodriguez

DNP, MSN-Ed, APRN, WHNP-BC, CNE

"Doctorally prepared Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Educator, and health writer who believes patients deserve straight answers."

I've spent my career at the intersection of clinical practice and patient education and I've seen firsthand what happens when people can't find clear, shame-free information about their sexual and reproductive health. That rift is why I write.

Why I Write

Shame functions as a clinical barrier. In sexual and reproductive health, it keeps people from asking questions, can delay diagnoses, and sends patients home without the information they came for. I became a Women's Health NP because I wanted to address that directly, in the exam room, with individual patients.

But writing extends that work. A clinical encounter reaches one person at a time; a well-written article reaches anyone who searches for an answer at 11pm because they were too embarrassed to ask their provider. That audience is large, and the content available to them is often poor. Much of it is vague, guarded, or quietly reinforces the stigma it claims to address.

STI prevention, family planning, and vaginal health are areas where shame-based messaging does consistent damage. The misinformation is not incidental to these topics; it is woven into how they are discussed publicly, and it has real consequences for care-seeking behavior. I write in these areas because I have the clinical background to get the details right and because I think the people reading this content deserve something better than what most of them are currently finding.

Before specializing in reproductive health content, I spent six-plus years in hospital revenue cycle and utilization management. That background informs a second area of my writing practice: health IT, payer workflows, and healthcare operations content for EHR vendors, healthcare SaaS platforms, and revenue cycle teams.

That is my work. Accurate information, written clearly, without the framing that makes people feel like their bodies are problems to be managed.
